Sonoco Selected as No. 8 "Best Places to Work"January 15, 2009
In SCBIZ magazine's Dec/Jan issue (www.scbizmag.com), which highlighted the 2008 "Best Places to Work" in South Carolina, Sonoco was selected as Number 8 amongst large employers.
Sonoco began in Hartsville as a small company making cones for yarn in 1899. It has since grown to become a global packaging manufacturer with 334 operations in 35 different countries, however, its headquarters remain in Hartsville.
The guiding principle behind Sonoco is that it's the people who make or break the company. It places a strong focus on recruiting good people and continuing to train and develop their talent.
Sonoco aims to give employees the opportunity to grow and advance in a safe environment while still maintaining a work/life balance.
Through the mentoring program, new hires are partnered with individuals to help guide their development. The company also fosters women and minority networking groups for people within the company.
Outside the company, Sonoco plays a large role in the small town.
"When we go out into the community, we can tell there's admiration for the people that work at Sonoco," said Robin Brown, manager for corporate communications. "It creates a sense of pride among Sonoco employees - we understand we work for a great company." |
