Darlington County Economic Development Hosts Annual Meeting

Darlington, S.C. – December 8, 2009 – The Darlington County Economic Development Partnership (DCEDP) and Darlington County Progress, Inc. held their Annual Meeting at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology (SiMT) attended by approximately 60 community and business leaders.  The proceedings included a rollout of the new marketing video presented by Media Source 1 of Florence and a new marketing booklet designed by Cyberwoven of Columbia.

“This is our first marketing video in over ten years,” said Robert Long, executive director, DCEDP.  “This video will be available on DVD and through our website.  Both the video and booklet are our first marketing pieces since the Partnership was established last year.”

Mr. Long also provided a summary of successes in Darlington County since his arrival in September 2008.  Highlights include a $45 million Nucor expansion and a $7 million New South Lumber Company expansion.  A total of $104 million in new capital investment and 160 jobs have been announced or committed to Darlington County.  The county is also in the final stages of completing their first site certification, which is the new Darlington County I-20 Industrial Park located near Interstate 20 and highway 340.

“Despite the economy, Darlington County had one of our most successful recruitment years,” said Jim Ramsey, chairman, DCEDP.  “I think this demonstrates that the new public-private approach is working and will position us for more success as the economy improves.”
